Under One Roof TypeWell Transcribed Tour

Under One Roof carries the immigration story into the present with the experiences of newcomers who settled on the Lower East Side after World War II. Visit the homes of Bella Epstein, whose parents built a new life on the Lower East Side after the Holocaust, Jose and Andy Velez, whose mother left Puerto Rico for garment work, and the Wong siblings, whose stories of their mother and other garment workers are highlighted in an interactive, recreated Chinatown garment shop.

3rd Floor | Accessible by Elevator | Recommended Ages 8 and up.

An Educator will lead a tour which will be converted from speech to text in real time by a TypeWell transcriber. The transcriptions will be accessed via visitors’ smart phones. The Museum will also provide a few devices to borrow.  Each tour is an hour and a half long, followed by a reception featuring local Lower East Side foods.
