Hard Times CART Captioned Tour

Explore how immigrants coped with economic hardship through the stories of the Gumpertz family and the Baldizzi family. Hear how these two families, living in different centuries, shared similar struggles, hopes, and survival strategies as they worked to create new lives in America. Visit the recreated homes of the Gumpertz family, whose primary breadwinner disappeared during the Panic of 1873, and the Baldizzi family, who persevered through the Great Depression.

Join the Tenement Museum for a CART captioned tour. An educator will lead a tour and visitors will receive real-time captions on their smartphones or on a device borrowed from the Museum for the duration of the tour. The tour will be an hour and half long followed by a reception featuring local Lower East Side foods.

The tours are free but space is limited.

Tickets must be reserved by emailing: ezeira@tenement.org or by calling 1-877-97-LESTM.
