SUMMARY:DESIGN AND DISABILITY | INSPIRED BY ALICE WONG
DESCRIPTION:\n\nCooper Hewitt’s Design and Disability programs invite par
 ticipants to explore relationships between design and disability\, centeri
 ng disabled perspectives as essential to the future of inclusive and innov
 ative design. Through lectures\, panels\, workshops\, and community gather
 ings\, these programs aim to highlight the work of disabled designers\, an
 d examines how disability can inform design practices\, aesthetics\, and s
 ystems.  \n\nJoin us for an afternoon of community\, crafting\, and conve
 rsation inspired by disability activist\, writer\, and visionary leader\, 
 Alice Wong. \n\nThis gathering invites participants to collaboratively re
 flect on Wong’s transformative impact on inclusive design and the partic
 ipation of those with lived experience in accessible design strategies. Le
 arn about Wong’s influence on design thinking through community discussi
 on and shared reflection. Engage in drop-in crafting and art-making activi
 ties inspired by her advocacy and creativity. Whether you are familiar wit
 h her work or just learning about her contributions\, this event offers sp
 ace for connection\, creativity\, and care.  \n\nThrough her advocacy\, s
 torytelling\, and leadership\, Wong transformed conversations around disab
 ility justice\, representation\, and access. Wong (1974–2025) was a gro
 undbreaking disability activist\, writer\, and founder of the Disability V
 isibility Project\, among a multitude of other cross-disciplinary project
 s dedicated to amplifying disabled voices. Her work revolutionized disab
 ility representation within inclusive design and community advocacy space
 s.  \n\n\n\nACCESSIBILITY AND WHAT TO EXPECT \n\n 	Format: Informal dis
 cussion and reflection with prompts. Drawing and hands-on crafting ins
 tructions will be available and all materials will be provided. No drawi
 ng or design experience is required. You can drop in at any time and st
 ay as long as you like. \n\n\n 	About this space: This program will tak
 e place in person in the first-floorgalleries at Cooper Hewitt. The museu
 m is fully wheelchair accessible. Stairs or elevator use are required 
 to enter the program space. Lighting includes a mix of natural light and 
 overhead lighting. An air purifier will be running. Seating options inc
 lude floor pillows\, benches\, a couch\, chairs with backs\, and gall
 ery stools. Sensory materials and PPE masks will be available. Read more
