\nExplore the practices of three artists featured in A Movement in Every D
irection: Legacies of the Great Migration in this conversation with Akea B
rionne\, Leslie Hewitt\, Robert Pruitt\, and exhibition curator Kimberli G
ant. Akea Brionne is an interdisciplinary researcher and artist who explor
es postcolonial Creole identity through photography and textile-based work
. Hewitt revisits the still-life genre through minimalist assemblages of o
rdinary materials\, which suggest the porosity between personal and sociop
olitical histories. Pruitt often weaves spirituality and symbolism into la
rge-scale figurative portraits to evoke a diverse and radical Black past\,
present\, and future. Using the Great Migration as their starting point\,
Akea Brionne\, Hewitt\, and Pruitt created new works for the exhibition t
hat consider the profound impact of this movement of millions of Black Ame
ricans across the South and the country.\n\nMasks are required in the Audi
torium and will be available upon arrival.\n--\nImage caption and credit:
